17.08.23 - The street children of Pokhara

Especially in the remote areas of Nepal, we often encounter homeless children, each of whom has a unique story as to why they are living on the streets. Behind the stories lie painful realities such as domestic violence, parents' alcohol problems or simply financial hardship, forcing families to send their children to the streets in order to survive. Although numerous organisations exist in Nepal, not all street children find their way to them.

One meal = CHF 1.30

On our trip to Pokhara, we met 15 children living on the streets and were able to provide them with meals for 4 days. Before we left, we gave them new shoes and shirts, and by cooperating with a local restaurant, we even provided them with a meal every week. With a contribution of just CHF 1.30, we can cover the cost of one such meal.

We do not want to encourage the children to continue living on the street and therefore deliberately only offer them a meal once a week. This temporary support enables us to maintain contact with the children via the restaurant family and at the same time look for long-term solutions.

Our dedicated team has already identified various organisations that we are working with to provide these children with a new home. As each child has individual needs and a unique story, the process of finding a place takes time.
